Classic Sugar Donuts
Ingredients:
• 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
• ½ cup granulated sugar
• 2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
• ½ teaspoon salt
• ¾ cup warm milk (110°F)
• 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
• 1 egg
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• Vegetable oil for frying
• ½ cup granulated sugar (for coating)
Preparation:
1. Activate the yeast: In a bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
2. Make the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add the activated yeast, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth.
3. Let it rise: Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
4. Shape the donuts: Roll out the dough to about ½-inch thickness and cut into donut shapes using a cutter or two round objects.
5. Second rise: Place the donuts on a tray, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
6. Fry: Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F. Fry donuts for about 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown.
7. Coat in sugar: Drain on paper towels and immediately toss in granulated sugar while warm.
8. Enjoy: Serve fresh and warm for the best flavor!
