Growing Mushrooms at Home Using Recycled Plastic Bottles
– Prepare Bottles:
Clean and disinfect the 5-liter plastic bottles. Cut off the tops, leaving the bottoms intact.
Boil the straw to sterilize and soften it. Allow it to cool and drain.
– Create Air Holes:
Make small holes in the bottles for air circulation.
– Layering:
Place a layer of straw at the bottom of the bottle. Sprinkle mushroom spores or mycelium on top, then add another layer of straw.
– Cover with Plastic Wrap:
Cover each bottle with plastic wrap to maintain moisture.
– Initial Watering:
Lightly moisten the straw and spores using a high-pressure watering can.
– Monitor Growth:
Watch the bottles for 12 days. Once mycelium growth appears, remove the plastic wrap.
– Second Watering:
Continue regular watering through the top of the bottle.
– Add Soil and Substrate:
After 12-15 days, add a layer of soil and substrate.
– Ongoing Care:
Maintain regular watering. In about 45 days, your mushrooms will be ready for harvest.
